Karman Fellow 2024

Abeer S. Al-Saud

UNESCO Fellow & Co-founder
The Sustainable Development Association (Talga)

Abeer, a dynamic explorer, peace builder, sustainability expert, multilateral professional, and artist, epitomizes the harmonious blend of Saudi and French cultures. With a profound sense of identity, she dedicates herself to integrating research, art, and exploration to foster self-discovery and sustainable models for the future.

Her journey into exploration commenced early, fueled by a passion for uncovering new knowledge and bridging the gap between science and policy. With expertise in Life Sciences, particularly Neuroaesthetics, she embarked on expeditions in the Nile Basin and Indochina, returning to Saudi Arabia to contribute to its cultural renaissance. Abeer's "Sublime Arabia" project, initiated in 2014, showcased unexplored destinations in the Arabian Peninsula, documenting diverse landscapes and cultures along the Incense Road.

A tireless advocate for human rights, Abeer Al Saud champions adherence to international development benchmarks within GCC member states, combatting modern slavery and human trafficking while endorsing UN SDG 8.6. As part of a policy and advocacy team, she has supported initiatives like the Artemis Accord, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation.

In addition to her exploratory endeavors, Abeer is a versatile artist, drawing inspiration from her surroundings and "Cosmic Desert" adventures. Her artworks, utilizing natural materials and experimental techniques, reflect her profound connection to the environment. A certified RYA Day Skipper sailor and experienced hiker, she is planning a 2000-mile bike expedition titled "Incense Peace Cycle" to promote peace and document smiles along the Incense Road.

Through her work, Abeer aims to bridge the gap between science, art, and advocacy, contributing to a more sustainable and harmonious future for all.
