Dr. Zizheng Gong is the Principal Research Scientist of China Academy of Space Technology, Chief Expert on Space Debris of Beijing Institute of Spacecraft Environment Engineering (BISEE), Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Spacecraft Environment Engineering.
Prior to working on space debris protection and active removal at China Academy of Space Technology, he has been working on the Dynamic Response of Metal Under Shock Loading at Institute of Fluid Physics, China Academy of Engineering Physics from 1986 to 2000. He was also the Professor of Physics, Doctoral Supervisor at Southwest Jiaotong University and Research Associated of Physics at Seismological Lab. of California Institute of Technology (Caltech), as well as Visiting Professor at Geophysical Laboratory, Carnegie Institution of Washington. Dr. Gong’s research fields include Space Debris Protection, Space Debris Active Removal, Near Earth Asteroid Defense and Space Debris Related Researches. With his collaborators, they have published more than 240 papers on Nature, PRL, PRB, APL, JGR, GRL, PEPI, IJIE, etc. In China, Dr. Gong is the Chairman of Protection Working Group of China National Expert. Committee of Space Debris Research forum, Member of the Chinese Society of Astronautics (CSA), Member of explosive mechanics committee, Chinese Society of Mechanics, Member of High Pressure Physics committee, Chinese Society of Physics, President of Chinese Society of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Deputy Director of the Fluid Earth Science Committee, Chinese Society of Geophysics. He is also on the editorial board of various journals such as Editor-in-chief of Chinese J. Spacecraft Environment Engineering and Associate Editor-in-chief of Journal of Interdisciplinary Sciences. Internationally, Dr. Gong is the Chair of Protection Working Group (WG3), Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee (IADC), Member of Space Debris Committee, International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), Member of the Long-term Sustainability of Outer Space Activities, the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee, UN-COPUOS, Member of American Physics Society and Member of American Geophysical Union.
