The Karman Project & EPFL Space Center: Advancing Space Sustainability for a Second Year

The Karman Project is proud to continue its partnership with the EPFL Space Center, alongside ESA and MIT, for the second edition of the Space Sustainability Program—a pioneering initiative that brings together global experts to address one of the most urgent challenges of our time: ensuring the long-term sustainability of space activities.

A Shared Commitment to the Future of Space

At The Karman Project, we believe that collaboration is key to tackling the most complex challenges in space. That’s why we are excited to work with the EPFL Space Center, a global leader in space education and research, to equip professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to integrate sustainability into space missions and policies.

The Space Sustainability Program was created to provide a structured, high-impact learning experience for individuals across the space ecosystem, from engineers and scientists to policy experts and industry leaders. Through dialogue and collaboration, the program seeks to shape a more responsible and sustainable approach to managing Earth’s orbits.

What the Program Covers

Over four immersive days at EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland, participants will:

Explore the Bigger Picture – Understand the history, policies, and geopolitical challenges of space sustainability.

Learn Key Frameworks – Gain insights into Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the space sector.

Apply Practical Tools – Work with methodologies designed for sustainable mission planning and responsible space operations.

Engage with Experts – Connect with global thought leaders to discuss challenges and opportunities in maintaining a safe and thriving space environment.

This program is designed for professionals—whether engineers, scientists, policymakers, or industry leaders—who are committed to shaping the future of sustainable space activities.

Strengthening Global Expertise & Action

As the second edition of the Space Sustainability Program approaches, we celebrate the growing global commitment to responsible space development. This program has already brought together exceptional minds from across disciplines, fostering knowledge-sharing and driving innovative solutions.

The partnership between The Karman Project, EPFL, ESA, and MIT continues to amplify the urgent need for sustainable practices in space. Through education, collaboration, and collective action, we remain committed to ensuring that space remains a shared and thriving environment for generations to come. We look forward to seeing the impact that this year's participants will make in shaping a more sustainable future for space.
